Chapter 22

My body feels like crap… I underestimated those chains.

Adam sat on the floor, with his back leaning against the wall of an unfamiliar room devoid of windows or doors. Guo Huan leaned against the opposite wall while fiddling with a spherical object half the size of a lime.

After a while, Adam hissed. “Why didn’t you stop the match earlier? That wasn’t what we agreed on. How do you expect me to beat a domain user while being restricted to using only one ability?”

Guo Huan raised his head toward Adam, and a smile blossomed on his lips. “You’ve finally come to your senses, I see. Forgive me, I know I renege on what was promised. I got a bit too excited.”

“Don’t give me that crap. What good is an apology at this point?” The student only groaned a little. “Tell me who you are and how you knew about me…”

Guo Huan’s chuckles answered his inquiries. The instructor then placed the crystal item inside his pocket before crossing his arms over his chest. “There isn’t much to say. Finding out about my identity would do you no good, so it’s better not to bother yourself about it. Secondly, I’m sure you already know why I know your identity. We don’t have a lot of time, Adam. Let’s not waste it on trivialities, okay?”

“All right, then. Why did you ask me to provoke De Leo?” Adam gave up on asking.

“I needed confirmation. Don’t bother asking why because I won’t tell you… but you can take solace in the fact that you didn’t disappoint me. What’s your next question?”

Adam’s brows creased, unhappy with Guo Huan’s response. However, he knew the mysterious instructor wouldn’t satisfy his inquiries. He moved on. “Why was the schedule of the mission brought forward? Wasn’t it supposed to—?”

“The timeline has changed. The recent news concerning Edril’s elixir has spread to all corners of the world. You-know-who is preparing already, and you must be a part of it.” Guo Huan answered before Adam could finish, “In a few days, when you’re officially declared as an A-rank awakened, you’ll need to accept the mission specified in the file before you head to the farmhouse,”

“Surely, that isn’t the only reason the timeline has been moved forward.” Adam clicked his tongue.

Guo Huan stared at him for a few seconds before momentarily turning away. “I’m not supposed to tell you, but fuck it. There’s someone—don’t ask who—searching for you. We can’t let the two of you cross paths just yet. It will lead to your inevitable death—”

“If there’s a madman like that out there, isn’t Varidan territory the safest place to lie low?”

Guo Huan chuckled while shaking his head. “If you know who is after your life, you’d know how nonsensical that statement is. I guarantee you, it wouldn’t make a difference if you were hiding in Varidan Towers. There would be a bloodbath if he finds you here. We would rather avoid all unnecessary conflicts and meaningless sacrifices.

“Then, there’s also the matter of our brothers and sisters working within Varidan territory.
